In the case between Ceylon Estate Staffs Union (representing workman S. A. Nandasena) and the Land Reform Commission (with later liability passing to the Janatha Estates Development Board—JEDB), the court addressed the enforceability of an arbitrator’s award for reinstatement and back wages following the transfer of Halpe Estate. It was held that, despite the vesting of the estate and the resultant transfer of employer obligations from the Land Reform Commission to the JEDB, the arbitration award should be enforced against the JEDB as the successor in title.
