Attorney General vs Triad Advertising (Pvt) Ltd. – SC APPEAL NO: 48/2013-2024

In the case between Triad Advertising (Pvt) Ltd. and the Attorney General (representing the Ministry of Education and/or the Government of Sri Lanka), the court addressed whether a letter marked as P20 constituted a valid written acknowledgment of debt under Section 12 of the Prescription Ordinance and if this was sufficient to extend the limitation period for the recovery claim. It was held that P20 fulfilled the statutory requirement for acknowledgment, thus extending the limitation period, and the plaintiff was entitled to recover the sum of Rs. 4,865,313.98 with interest.
