Dr. L.S. Jayasinghe v. Prof. Rezvi Sheriff – 675/2011-2011
The case between Dr. L.S. Jayasinghe, Dr. G.L.R. Gurusinghe, Dr. M.R.C.K. Bandara, Dr. W.H.M. Abeysekera (petitioners) and Prof. Rezvi Sheriff, Prof. Jayantha Jayawardana, and other officers of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo (respondents), addressed the issue of whether writs of Certiorari, Prohibition, and Mandamus should be issued concerning the allocation of training positions in ophthalmology sub-specialities under Article 140 of the Sri Lankan Constitution. The matter became moot when the petitioners were granted the training positions sought. The petitioners subsequently requested withdrawal of the case, with no objections from the key respondents.
