In a legal analysis concerning the legislative compliance of Sri Lanka with international commitments under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and constitutional provisions, courts examined whether national measures align with international human rights standards, particularly the ICCPR. The review extensively considered the interpretation and protection of constitutional rights such as self-determination, equal protection, the right to life, freedom from torture, and various civil liberties within the domestic legal framework, as well as the delineation of the Supreme Court’s authority in fundamental rights protection and executive action review.
